Principal's Message

“To travel hopefully is better than to arrive.” Robert Louis Stevenson

In the 2008-2009 school year, Stevenson Middle School embarked on a new voyage to enhance student achievement. A community of stakeholders decided to vote in a new innovative way to raise student achievement.  The Partnership of Los Angeles Schools (PLAS) brought to fruition by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has provided Stevenson with a fresh outlook on meeting the needs of our students, staff, and parents. This new partnership’s success is yet to be determined, but the changes and the resources have brought excitement to the Pirate community.

A student centered focus will bolster professional growth throughout the school. Relationship building with our students and the implementation of Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) will allow all staff to gain a greater understanding of the needs of our students in the community.  Students also need to do their part by being responsible for their education. Exemplifying a strong sense of pride in their school and education will provide students with a more confident and competent outlook on setting goals for success. High expectations and an intensity to succeed from all stakeholders will set the tone at Stevenson for years to come.

I want to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication this year.  This year has been a learning experience for all and everyone’s patience in a transition year is greatly appreciated.  I welcome all stakeholders to board the Pirate ship, as we set sail on an exciting voyage for years to come.

“Each member of your team has a potential for personal greatness; the leader’s job is to help them achieve it.” John Wooden
